The Department of Excise and Taxation, Ludhiana has called on city’s leading business associations to play an active role in strengthening GST revenue, as new reforms take effect this month. At a meeting held with representatives of the Knitwear Club , Bahadurke Textiles and Knitwear Association (BKTK) and the Ludhiana Readymade Garments Manufacturer’s Association (LRGMA), officials of the department outlined the impact of the GST Council’s recent reforms. The revised rates, which include reductions in yarn and allied items, are aimed at boosting economic activity while simplifying compliance.

Deputy Commissioner of State Tax (DCST) Ludhiana Division, Randhir Kaur, briefed participants on the GST rate cuts and emphasized the government’s objective of widening compliance and easing the tax burden. She underlined that while rate rationalization is designed to benefit industry, transparency from traders is equally essential. “Revenue enhancement can only happen when businesses come forward with honesty in reporting,” she noted, reiterating that there would be zero tolerance for tax evasion" said DCST.

Assistant Commissioner of State Tax (ACST) Ludhiana-3, Shinee Singh, along with STOs Bhupinder Singh, Harpreet Singh and ASTO Hardeep Singh Ahuja also attended the interaction. Officials urged associations to disseminate information about the GST reforms among their members and to help create awareness about compliance requirements. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between tax authorities and industry bodies for a seamless transition to the new tax structure.

Prominent representatives from the trade fraternity, including Darshan Dawar, Subhash Saini, Sandeep Behl, A.S. Dua, Darshan Lal Gaba and Brijmohan Timma, assured their support in carrying forward the message to manufacturers and shopkeepers.

The discussion ended with a consensus on the need for joint efforts to strengthen GST revenue in Ludhiana, particularly in the hosiery and textile sector. Nodal Officer ASTO Hardeep Singh Ahuja stated that similar meetings will soon be organized with associations from other industries to widen outreach and ensure compliance across sectors.
