The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on Tuesday demolished three unauthorized residential colonies in the villages of Dhandra and Daad, intensifying its crackdown on illegal and unplanned development in the district.

The demolition drive was carried out by GLADA’s regulatory wing following directions from Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar. The action came after developers continued construction activities despite being served prior notices by the authority.

A special enforcement team conducted the sealing and demolition operation, which proceeded without resistance from the developers or occupants. Officials said the illegal colonies had been developed without statutory approvals and violated government planning norms.

GLADA has also recommended the registration of FIRs against the developers involved in the unauthorized projects. Authorities said strict legal action would be taken to deter such violations in the future.

A GLADA spokesperson said the authority has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal colonies, particularly those exploiting buyers by offering cheaper plots without basic civic infrastructure or legal sanction.

Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar appealed to the public to verify the legal status of properties before making purchases. He warned that GLADA would not provide essential facilities such as water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections to unauthorized colonies. He added that the list of approved and regularized colonies, along with sanctioned layout plans, is available on GLADA’s official website for public reference.
