The Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana has issued a 30-day ultimatum to owners of commercial buildings, educational institutions, coaching centres, and industrial units to obtain a Fire Safety No Objection Certificate (NOC), failing which they will face hefty fines and possible sealing of premises.

MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal ordered strict enforcement of fire safety norms across the city, stating that public safety remains the administration’s top priority in Punjab’s industrial hub. He directed officials to take firm action against violators under the Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Act, 2012.

According to MC officials, obtaining a fire safety NOC is mandatory for all commercial establishments. Industrial unit owners have been instructed to complete required fire safety arrangements and secure the certificate within the stipulated period.

The administration warned that violators may be fined up to ₹50,000, and in cases of continued non-compliance, authorities are empowered to seal buildings. Coaching centres found flouting fire safety norms will also face similar penalties, as per previous orders issued by the Local Bodies Department.

To facilitate residents, the MC has made the fire safety certification process available online through the Punjab government’s FastTrack portal. Detailed guidelines, eligibility conditions, and prescribed fees are available on the website.

The commissioner further directed residents to comply with the National Building Code, 2016, and the Punjab Fire and Emergency Service Act, 2024, and obtain the Fire Safety NOC from the Fire Department within 30 days.

Appealing to building owners, Dachalwal said that compliance with fire safety norms is essential for protecting lives and property. He urged residents to apply voluntarily, warning that the civic body would be compelled to take strict action against defaulters.
