The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, has busted a major narcotics smuggling racket operating in South Kashmir with the arrest of three key accused, including a supplier and two habitual offenders.

Acting on specific intelligence, NCB Srinagar carried out a targeted operation in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on 19th August 2025. The operation resulted in the seizure of 10.735 kgs of Charas, one of the biggest seizures of the year and the arrest of three accused, Firdous (R/o Bijbehara, Anantnag), Jan Mohd Baba (R/o Lal Bazaar, Srinagar) and Mohd Lateef (R/o Srigufwara, Anantnag, J&K).

Verification of criminal records revealed that Firdous had earlier been booked in NDPS cases by PS Bijbehara and NCB Jammu, while Jan Mohammad Baba was also previously involved in an NDPS case registered by NCB Jammu.

Investigations into backward and forward linkages confirmed that the seized contraband was procured from Mohammad Lateef, who has also been arrested, and was facilitating its inter-state transport through illicit channels.

The NCB underlined that the establishment of its Srinagar office is part of the Union Government’s strategic initiative to strengthen narcotics enforcement in Jammu & Kashmir. The agency reiterated its commitment to disrupting the drug trade, safeguarding youth from its harmful effects and ensuring stronger inter-agency coordination across the Union Territory.
