The Enforcement Directorate (Mumbai Zonal Office) has provisionally attached assets worth Rs.307.16 crore on September 19, 2025, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, in connection with the Fairplay betting case. The attached assets include bank balances and immovable properties, lands, villas and flats, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
ED said the money laundering probe was initiated after Viacom18 Media Pvt Limited filed an FIR with the Nodal Cyber Police, Mumbai, against Fairplay and others for offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Copyright Act. The FIR alleged loss of revenue exceeding Rs.100 crore. Multiple other FIRs relating to illegal online betting were subsequently tagged into the investigation.
According to the ED release, proceeds of crime in the matter exceed several hundred crores, given the scale of operations and the movement of funds abroad through trade-based channels. Investigation found that key accused Krish Laxmichand Shah registered a cluster of companies abroad, Play Ventures N.V , Dutch Antilles Management N.V in Curacao, Fair Play Sport LLC and Fairplay Management DMCC in Dubai, Play Ventures Holding Limited in Malta to support Fairplay’s operations.
ED’s probe, the statement says, indicates that Fairplay was primarily operated by Krish L. Shah from Dubai with assistance from associates including Anil Kumar Dadlani. Shah, family members and associates are alleged to have acquired movable and immovable assets in their names and in the names of relatives or related entities in the UAE.
Notably the Enforcement Directorate conducted searches on June 12th, 2024, August 27th, 2024, September 27th, 2024 and October 25, 2024, leading to seizure or freezing of movable assets, relevant documents and digital devices. Earlier provisional attachment orders in the case were issued on November 22nd, 2024, December 26th, 2024 and January 15th, 2025.
ED arrested two key persons, Chintan Shah and Chirag Shah, on February 12th, 2025. A prosecution complaint was filed before the Special PMLA Court, Mumbai, on April 1st, 2025, cognizance was taken on April 25th, 2025. With the latest order, the total value of attached and seized assets in the case to date stands at approximately Rs.651.31 crore.
