The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday secured the return of fugitive Parminder Singh, also known as Nirmal Singh and Pindi, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through Interpol channels. Pindi, who was wanted by Punjab Police on charges including extortion, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and raising funds for terrorist activities under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, had fled India and remained absconding until his arrest overseas.

According to CBI, today (September 26th) the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI, working closely with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, NCB-Abu Dhabi, and Punjab Police, coordinated Singh’s extradition. A Punjab Police team escorted him back to India from the UAE, bringing an end to his run from justice.

Notably the process began earlier this year when CBI, acting on a request from Punjab Police, secured the publication of a Red Notice against Singh through Interpol on June 13th, 2025. The notice, which is circulated worldwide to law enforcement agencies, enabled authorities in the UAE to locate and arrest him. Following legal proceedings, the decision was made to extradite him to India.

Red Notices are among the strongest tools in Interpol’s global network, allowing countries to track and detain fugitives wanted in serious cases. By leveraging this mechanism, CBI ensured that Pindi could no longer evade accountability for the charges against him.

CBI, which serves as India’s National Central Bureau for Interpol, has played a pivotal role in tracking fugitives and coordinating their return through its platform BHARATPOL. According to the agency, more than 130 wanted individuals have been brought back to India over the past few years through such cooperation.

The return of Parminder Singh Pindi marks another significant success in India’s ongoing efforts to pursue criminals who attempt to escape justice by crossing borders.
