A powerful late-night explosion at the Verka milk plant on Ludhiana–Ferozepur Road claimed one life and left five others injured during ongoing boiler repair work on Wednesday (October 22nd 2025). The blast, which occurred around midnight, shook the surrounding area and caused panic among nearby residents.

The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Kunal Jain, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a local hospital. According to reports, he had reportedly come to the plant to inspect the boiler system out of professional commitment. The injured workers, Ajit Singh, Puneet Kumar, Kulwant Singh, Davinder Singh Lalton and Gurtej Singh, were rushed to different hospitals, where two remained in serious condition as of Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd facility, commonly known as Verka, while technicians were performing maintenance on the boiler and air-heater section. Preliminary reports suggest the explosion may have resulted from excessive pressure buildup, though the exact cause is still under investigation.

Police and fire department teams quickly reached the scene to control the situation and prevent further damage. Verka’s General Manager announced that a committee has been constituted to probe the cause of the explosion and ensure accountability. Authorities have begun recording statements of employees and contractors present at the site to determine whether safety norms were violated.

The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through Ludhiana’s industrial community, raising serious concerns over the enforcement of safety protocols during maintenance work at large manufacturing units.
