DRI Ludhiana cracks high tech drug concealment, seizes 103 kg Ganja

In a swift and meticulously planned operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Ludhiana Zonal Unit carried out a major drug seizure after intercepting a vehicle fitted with expertly engineered concealed chambers, from which 103 kg of cannabis (ganja) was recovered. The haul represents one of the most intricate concealment techniques detected in recent months.
Acting on
precise intelligence inputs, DRI teams mounted surveillance and intercepted a
suspected car near Inland Container Depot (ICD), GRFL, Sahnewal, Ludhiana on November 14th. What appeared to be an
ordinary vehicle soon revealed a sophisticated smuggling design. A detailed
rummaging led to the discovery of 74 khakhi-taped packets stashed inside
specially fabricated cavities in both the front and rear floor sections.
Investigators
found that the smugglers had created false floors within the bodywork, an
advanced method often used to hide contraband behind rear seats, trunk linings,
or beneath original flooring. These concealed compartments were integrated so
seamlessly that they blended with the vehicle’s factory structure, making
detection nearly impossible without extensive dismantling.
The 74
recovered packets weighed a total of 103 kg and carry an estimated
illicit-market value of around ₹31 lakh. The vehicle used for trafficking and
all contraband were seized on the spot. Two individuals travelling in the car
were arrested on 15 November 2025, and further investigation is underway.
DRI as India’s apex anti-smuggling
organisation under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. Its mandate
spans combating drug trafficking, wildlife and environmental contraband,
commercial frauds in international trade, and Customs duty evasion.
