Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal announced a massive Rs 8.46 crore refurbishment project to give the heart of the city, Nehru Rose Garden, a complete facelift. The civic body floated a tender today to invite specialized contractors who can handle the sprawling 30-acre garden’s diverse infrastructure and horticulture needs, ensuring residents regain access to a world-class green space.

The project allocates a significant Rs 3.29 crore to horticulture, which will fund the planting of new rose beds and ornamental flora to restore the garden’s floral fame. To maintain this greenery, the MC will spend Rs 85.62 lakh on a modern irrigation system featuring automated sprinklers, supported by a dedicated water tank worth over Rs 21.40 lakh.

Civil infrastructure across the park is set for a major overhaul with an estimated budget of Rs 1.32 crore. This covers the redevelopment of broken footpaths and pathways to assist morning and evening walkers who frequent the garden. Additionally, the plan includes modernizing the electrical system and installing decorative lighting at an approximate cost of Rs 2.15 crore to improve safety and aesthetics after sunset.

Families and fitness enthusiasts will benefit from specialized community zones, including a dedicated children’s play area costing Rs 19.82 lakh and an open-air gym priced at Rs 5.67 lakh. To ensure basic public hygiene, the MC has also sanctioned Rs 32.06 lakh for the construction of a modern toilet block within the premises.

Commissioner Dachalwal stated that his team is moving rapidly to complete the tendering process to ensure work begins without compromise on quality. While the MC provides these upgrades, Dachalwal appealed to the public to support local authorities in keeping the upgraded facilities clean and green once the project concludes.
