Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Thursday awarded dairy farming skill-development certificates to 24 youths undergoing treatment at the Government Rehabilitation Centre in Jagraon. The ceremony marked a key step under the Punjab government’s Yudh Nashya Virudh campaign, which aims to ensure holistic rehabilitation of individuals recovering from substance abuse.
The participants completed hands-on training in modern dairy farming, milk processing, animal husbandry and entrepreneurship. The programme was organised by the district administration in collaboration with the Dairy Development Department and Health Department, with support from the Sun Foundation. Officials said the training is designed to equip recovering youths with practical skills that can lead to dignified self-employment.
Addressing the gathering, DC Jain said the initiative focuses on preventing relapse by addressing unemployment and lack of purpose—two major challenges faced by recovering individuals. He added that the administration is committed to providing sustainable livelihood opportunities and announced that more vocational training programmes will be launched in the coming months.
The event was attended by SDM Jagraon Upinderjit Kaur, Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur, SMO Dr Gurbinder Kaur, Lead District Manager Gurdev Singh Kang, Employment Generation Officer Jeevandeep Singh, Dairy Development Officer Dr Varun Sehgal, and representatives of the Sun Foundation.
