Ludhiana Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur on Monday visited a minor child undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital after being bitten by a stray dog in Gandhi Colony of Model Gram. The Mayor met the child’s family and doctors and prayed for the child’s speedy recovery, calling the incident unfortunate.

During her visit, the Mayor said the Municipal Corporation acted promptly after receiving the complaint and removed the dog responsible for the attack from the area. She assured the family that the civic body was taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.

Highlighting ongoing measures, Mayor Inderjit Kaur stated that the Municipal Corporation has been actively working to control the stray dog population in the city. She said that more than 1.19 lakh stray dogs have been sterilised in Ludhiana so far as part of the corporation’s sustained sterilisation drive.

The Mayor also said that Municipal Corporation Ludhiana is the first civic body in Punjab to initiate a project for establishing a dedicated dog pound and shelter. The facility is being set up at the Haibowal dairy complex and aims to strengthen animal management and public safety in the city.

Meanwhile, Mayor Inderjit Kaur directed concerned civic body officials to further expedite the stray dog sterilisation programme to ensure better control of the stray dog population and reduce risks to residents.
