Acting on the directions of Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on Friday demolished an unauthorized building in village Pohir as part of its ongoing drive against illegal and unplanned development.
The demolition was carried out by GLADA’s Regulatory Wing under the supervision of Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar. Officials dismantled illegally constructed structures and internal roads at the site after the developers failed to stop construction work despite repeated notices issued by the authority. The drive was conducted smoothly and faced no resistance.
GLADA officials said the authority has also recommended the registration of FIRs against the developers for violating planning and development norms. A special enforcement team was deployed to ensure strict compliance with the orders.
A GLADA spokesperson said the authority has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized buildings and illegal colonies. He added that a special drive has been launched to take punitive action against developers who mislead people by offering cheaper plots in colonies that lack statutory approval and do not comply with government regulations.
Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar appealed to the public to avoid purchasing plots, buildings or properties in unauthorized colonies, warning that GLADA will not provide basic civic facilities such as water supply, sewerage and electricity connections in such areas. He said prospective buyers should verify the status of colonies from the list of approved and regularized colonies along with sanctioned maps available on GLADA’s official website before making any purchase.
