Acting against illegal real estate development, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on Monday demolished three unauthorized colonies in village Kanija after developers ignored repeated notices to stop construction.

The demolition drive was carried out by the regulatory wing of GLADA on the directions of Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar. Officials said a special enforcement team conducted the operation on Friday, which remained peaceful and faced no resistance.

According to GLADA officials, the developers continued illegal construction activities despite being served formal notices, prompting the authority to take strict action. GLADA has also recommended the registration of FIRs against the developers involved in the unauthorized colonies.

A spokesperson said GLADA has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards unplanned and illegal development, particularly unauthorized colonies that violate statutory norms. He added that a special drive is underway to take punitive action against individuals misleading innocent buyers by offering cheaper plots without government approval.

Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar appealed to the public not to purchase plots or buildings in unauthorized colonies, cautioning that GLADA will not provide essential civic amenities such as water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections in such areas. He advised prospective buyers to verify the status of colonies through the official GLADA website, where the list of approved and regularized colonies along with sanctioned layout plans is available.
