The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana on Monday held the third meeting of its city-level committee to finalise designs for upgrading major city roads to world-class standards, as part of a Punjab government project closely monitored by Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora.

The meeting was chaired by MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal through video conferencing at the MC Zone D office, where detailed deliberations were held on road designs prepared by consultant firms. The project aims to modernise Ludhiana’s urban road infrastructure by improving safety, mobility and aesthetics.

Under the current phase, around 15 kilometres of key city roads have been identified for redevelopment. The selected stretches include Sherpur Chowk to Jagraon Bridge, Jagraon Bridge to Old Sabji Mandi Chowk, Fountain Chowk to Bharat Nagar Chowk, Fountain Chowk to Aarti Cinema Chowk, Chaura Bazar Chowk to Ghas Mandi Chowk, the road outside DMC Hospital, Field Ganj to Civil Hospital Road, Gill Chowk to Gill Village Road and Model Town Road, among others.

Officials said the redesigned roads would cater to commuters, cyclists and pedestrians, with special emphasis on road safety, organised parking and landscaping. The designs have been prepared keeping in mind the specific requirements of each area to ensure smooth traffic flow and pedestrian convenience.

MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, DCP Rupinder Singh, ACP (Traffic) Jatin Bansal, SE Sham Lal Gupta, Director Punjab Road Safety and Traffic Research Centre Navdeep Asija and Punjab Road Safety Council member Rahul Verma, along with officials from PWD, PSPCL and other departments, attended the meeting.

The design presentation was made by Dhrupad Consultant Pvt Ltd and Creative Footprints, the firms engaged for the project. The Punjab Road Safety and Traffic Research Centre is working as the Project Monitoring Unit for the initiative.
