The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) sealed five unauthorized buildings in village Threeke on Wednesday as part of its ongoing crackdown on illegal construction in the city and its outskirts.

Acting on the directions of Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar, the authority’s regulatory wing carried out the sealing operation after developers failed to stop construction despite repeated notices. A special enforcement team executed the drive, which was completed without any resistance on the spot.

Officials said GLADA has also recommended the registration of FIRs against the developers for violating building norms and continuing construction without statutory approval. The authority reiterated that it is adopting a zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized and unplanned development, particularly illegal colonies mushrooming in rural and peri-urban areas.

A GLADA spokesperson said a special drive has been launched to take strict action against persons allegedly duping innocent residents by offering cheaper plots in unauthorized colonies that lack government sanction and fail to meet mandatory norms.

Chief Administrator Sandeep Kumar urged the public to verify the status of colonies before purchasing any property, cautioning that GLADA will not provide basic amenities such as water supply, sewerage, or electricity connections in unauthorized areas. He added that the list of approved and regularized colonies, along with sanctioned layout plans, is available on the official GLADA website for public verification.
