The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana’s general house, led by Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, on Friday approved several major resolutions aimed at ensuring sustainable development of the city during a peaceful and productive meeting held at Dr BR Ambedkar Bhawan near the Jalandhar bypass.

MLAs Ashok Prashar Pappi, Madan Lal Bagga, Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, Kulwant Singh Sidhu and Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina attended the meeting along with Senior Deputy Mayor Rakesh Prashar, Deputy Mayor Prince Johar, Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, councillors and senior civic officials.

The house paid tributes to the martyrdom of the ‘Chaar Sahibzaade’, the four sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, at the beginning of the proceedings.

During the zero hour, councillors from both the ruling party and the opposition raised issues concerning civic amenities and local development. The mayor ensured equal opportunity to all members, and officials concerned received on-the-spot directions to resolve public issues.

Among the key resolutions approved were providing compassionate employment to the next of kin of around 65 deceased municipal employees, recruitment of staff on regular and DC rate basis, and expansion of the city limits to accommodate growing urban needs.

The house also approved renaming Hero Bakery Chowk as Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Chowk and Kidwai Nagar as Gosain Nagar. Additionally, the road leading to Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara was named after Baba Deep Singh Ji.

Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur said the meeting concluded with positive outcomes and reflected the civic body’s commitment to inclusive development. She stated that under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, development projects worth crores are being implemented across Ludhiana without discrimination.

The mayor further said the civic body has launched multiple initiatives to strengthen solid waste management, including major projects to clear legacy waste, which will also help improve Ludhiana’s ranking in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan.

Seeking continued cooperation from residents and elected representatives, the mayor said the Municipal Corporation is making concerted efforts to transform Ludhiana into a model city.
