Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal ordered a high-level inquiry into a major fire that gutted property in the Basant Nagar area on Monday night. The commissioner, during a site inspection on Tuesday, directed officials to identify the exact cause of the blaze and initiate strict legal proceedings against the property owner if safety violations are found.

Accompanied by Aman Bagga, the representative for MLA Madan Lal Bagga, Commissioner Dachalwal assessed the structural damage and coordinated with emergency teams. He instructed the fire brigade and civic body officials to scrutinize the building’s fire safety compliance and determine if any negligence triggered the incident.

Key administrative figures, including MC Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain and Assistant Divisional Fire Officer (ADFO) Jaswinder Singh, were present at the scene. They provided technical details regarding the firefighting operations that lasted several hours after the fire broke out late Monday evening.

Following the inspection, Dachalwal issued a stern warning that no leniency will be shown if anomalies in fire safety protocols are uncovered. He emphasized that building owners must be held accountable for maintaining safe environments to protect both property and human life.

Closing the inspection, the MC Chief issued a public appeal to all city residents and business owners. He urged them to proactively install and maintain mandatory fire safety arrangements in their premises to prevent such untoward incidents in the future.
