Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain issued a series of strict, time-bound directives to various government departments and executive agencies on Tuesday to prevent road accidents during the ongoing foggy season. Presiding over a District Road Safety Committee meeting, Jain declared a policy of zero tolerance for any lapses, emphasizing that the administration will not compromise on public safety as visibility continues to drop across the region.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered all concerned agencies to immediately install cat's eyes, reflectors, and blinkers on an emergency basis. These critical visibility aids must be placed along high-risk stretches, canal-side roads, dividers, and sharp turns within five days. The move aims to guide drivers through thick fog by ensuring road boundaries and hazards effectively reflect vehicle headlights.

To curb the high risk of rear-end collisions involving heavy transport, Jain mandated the installation of retro-reflective yellow tapes on all commercial vehicles. The District Industries Centre, GST, and Excise officials have been tasked with ensuring that all business establishments and companies comply with this rule. Similarly, the Departments of Cooperatives and Agriculture will enforce the same for tractor-trolleys, while PRTC and Roadways officials must ensure tapes are fixed on all buses.

Specific attention was directed toward the NHAI to secure major transit corridors, including the Ladowal Bypass and the stretch from Samrala Chowk to the Jalandhar-side Toll Plaza. The DC ordered the immediate installation of speed control barriers, rumbler stripes, signages, and view cutters at these locations to prevent high-speed pile-ups and improve navigation in low-visibility conditions.

The administration also launched a crackdown on modified or overloaded vehicles, with Jain ordering intensive challaning for those posing a grave danger to the public. Enforcement officers must submit a detailed report of these actions by January 5, 2026. Additionally, the DC instructed officials to inspect school buses to ensure the "Safe School Vahan Policy" is strictly implemented, warning that any risk to the lives of schoolchildren is unacceptable.

A final deadline of January 5, 2026, has been set for all departments—including the Municipal Corporation, PWD, and Mandi Board—to submit their compliance reports. Jain warned that a follow-up review meeting is scheduled for January 6, and any official found failing to comply with these orders will face strict disciplinary action.
